Benjamin Franklin is dressed up to go see his dad.

Pete took a 20-something mile bike ride to his friends' house and now is stranded there, so Ben and I are going to pick him up, but with this sweet little get-up I (half) made him, Pete's pride and joy is sure to get some extra love later!

Awhile ago, I started to crochet a blanket for Pete and me. It looked like this after about two weeks:

And now it looks like this!

I'm proud of myself. Hopefully it'll be ready for the next Massachusetts winter... If I'm lucky! It's width fits across a queen sized bed, with the edges hanging over about a foot or so on each side. I've been crocheting single crochets with a skip for 25 rows, then I do a double crochet with a skip for 5 rows. Right now I'm in the middle of the third row of double crochets, for the second time. Again, I'm using green Impeccable Yarn from Michael's and blue Red Heart Eco-Ways Recycled Yarn. So far I've used 2 balls of blue and I'm on my fourth ball of green. I have about a billion more balls in these colors. I hope I have enough to finish it!

Often, I find myself making amigurumis and granny squares to break the monotony, but I've been in a big ole' blanket kick lately. Hopefully I'll get back into the 'rumi's soon. I made another bluebird body and he's dying to get some eyes and other body parts!

Also I've been tossing around the idea of crocheting moccasins. This yarn shop I love in Newburyport has the slipper soles for them and I think they would be so cute!

Things I love

I love opening up my Mac's photobooth and finding pictures Peter took of himself with his favorite little babe.

I love it when I actually do my hair and put it into curls.

I also love the juxtaposition of the short hair, freshly cut, next to it.

I love my best friend, and our crackin' out crochet sessions.

I love our granny squares too :)

And I love her daughter, my favorite babe, and possibly the only babe I love.

Those rough rain storms last week caused a power outage at the house and the internet has not been the same since. I'm updating from the library.

Since last week, I finished both the bee and the peas in a pod. The bee went from this:

I love how the bee turned out, with the lil' stinger and all, but I LOVE the peas in a pod...

Mostly, because it doubles as a hat for Benjamin Franklin.

I think I'll end up making more of these peas in a pod. We've already become attached to it, as Ben's hat, and I wrote out my own version of a pattern so I'll be able to replicate it identically.

I also got 2 new crochet hooks.. BIG ones!

The BIG one is a Q, and I believe it's also referred to as a speed hook. I plan on making some quick blankets with the big guy. The little one is a N or a P, I forget, but I bought some wool yarn to crochet Pete some socks and the pattern recommended that size, so I got it.

Pete made me promise not to go back to Michael's for awhile. I spent nearly $100 on yarns, hooks, and various other crafting stuffs. I have so many projects in my head! And so much was on sale because the different colors are getting discontinued. The chunky Lion's Brand Wool-Ease in taupe was only $3.49, which is almost 50% off. And I'm just a sucker for the Impeccable Yarns and Red Heart Eco-Way Recycled Yarns too.

I also picked up these hooks for when Pete and I get a new apartment... One we plan on sticking around in for awhile. The hunt still ensues! In the meantime, I'll probably end up spray painting them gold or red. Or maybe I'll figure out a cute design to paint on them, or wrap them in yarn. Who knows? I am not sure yet, but once I figure out what I'm doing with them, I'm sure I'll post a photograph of the final project.

my first amigurumi

I've been crocheting for a few months now and I love it! Recently, a good friend of mine taught me how to make a bird-type amigurumi. She made an owl; I made a bluebird. I am absolutely in love with him. I think he's adorable.

I basically crocheted an egg shape, then did the first round of a granny square for the eyes, did some variations on the egg shape for the arms, and I have NO idea what I did for the feet, but they seem to work. Then I stuffed the guy, sewed it all together, and added some button eyes. I think I'm going to work on a bumble bee friend for him, then maybe a red birdy friend for him too. In the meantime, he can hang out on my shoulder and listen to some This American Life with me while I get busy on those tasks.
